U.S. Army veteran, Specialist Patrick Kelly and family received the keys to a newly-renovated home north of Chandler in Fargo Estates on Wednesday, as part of a partnership between the Military Warriors Support Foundation and Bank of America.
The home was donated mortgage-free to honor the growing family, as Kelly seeks to return to civilian life after bravely serving the United States.
Kelly entered the Army in 2011, and suffered combat-related injuries while on tour.
During his career in the Army, Kelly received numerous awards, including: Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.
Representatives from Bank of America and the Military Warriors Support Foundation were on hand Wednesday to welcome the Kellys to their new home.
“Bank of America realizes the challenges these men and women face as they enter back into military life,” Gregg Davis, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch Marketing Executive said. “We have set up a foundation and endowment to ensure they receive some help they need from an education standpoint, from housing and employment. What I am most proud of is in 2002 we started this program and put up 1,000 homes that they have donated to support military families.”
Since the start of the program the company has donated more than 1,900 homes nationwide to military veteran-support charities and other nonprofit, community-based organizations like the Military Warriors Support Foundation.
“Being able to get in touch with an organization like this that is willing to go out of their way to help guys like me out is amazing,” Kelly said. “This is something a lot of us did not even think was possible. It was one of those ‘too good to be true’ moments. Being able to walk in the door and seeing all the work these guys did was big. It is definitely going to help us out.”
Kelly, his wife Rachel and members of their family toured the home for the first time Wednesday. Their expressions left little doubt they were overwhelmed with joy.
